信念是一粒种子
很久以前，为了开辟新的街道，伦敦拆除了许多陈旧的楼房。然而新路却久久没有开工，旧楼房的地基在那里任凭日晒雨淋。
有一天，一群自然科学家来到了这里，他们发现，在这一片多年来未见天日的地基上，这些日子里因为接触了春天的阳光雨露，竟长出了一片野花野草。奇怪的是，其中有一些花草却是英国人从来没有见过的。它们通常只生长在地中海沿岸国家。
这些被拆除的楼房，大多是在罗马人沿着泰晤士河进攻英国时建造的，大概花草的种子就是那个时候被带到了这里。它们被压在沉重的石头砖瓦之下，一年又一年，几乎已经完全丧失了生存的机会。但令人感到意外的是，一旦它们见到了阳光，就立即恢复了勃勃生机，绽开了一朵朵美丽的鲜花。
小小的种子真令人惊叹，它们是如此的柔弱却又如此坚韧，即使在沉重的砖瓦下压上数百年，它们依然能够保持自己鲜活的生命。一旦阳光照耀，一旦雨露滋润，它们便又焕发出勃勃的生机。一粒种子，即使被埋没数百年，依然蕴藏着生的希望；那么一个人，当他处于困境时，又当如何呢？
有一年，一支英国探险队进入撒哈拉沙漠的某个地区，在茫茫的沙海线里跋涉。阳光下，漫天飞舞的风沙像炒红的铁砂一般，扑打着探险队员的面孔。口喝似炙，心急如焚--大家的水都没有了。这时，探险队长拿出一只水壶，说：“这里还有一壶水，但穿越沙漠前，谁也不能喝。”
一壶水，成了穿越沙漠的信念之源，成了求生的寄托目标。水壶在队员手中传递，那沉甸甸的感觉使队员们濒临绝望的脸上，又露出了坚定的神色。终于，探险队顽强地走出了沙漠，挣了死神之手。大家喜极而泣，用颤抖的手拧开那壶支撑他们的精神之水--缓缓流出来的，却是满满的一壶沙子。
